Sarah

Sarah Leung is the eldest daughter in The Woks of Life family, working on the blog alongside younger sister Kaitlin and parents Bill and Judy. Growing up on episodes of Ready, Set, Cook and Good Eats, cooking and eating were early obsessions. You could say that this multigenerational food blog was born out of two things: 1. her realization in college that she had no idea how to make her mom’s Braised Pork Belly (the food shows, magazines and cookbooks out there didn’t either) and 2. that she couldn’t find a job after graduation. With the rest of the family on board, she laid the groundwork for the blog in 2013.

Official Woks of Life photographer, site administrator, editor, and creator of quick and easy recipes for harried home cooks, Sarah continues the family tradition of preserving culinary heritage while making Chinese cooking accessible and enjoyable for home cooks of all experience levels and backgrounds. From documenting her grandmother's traditional recipes to creating modern interpretations of the classics, she chases down familiar nostalgic flavors while adapting to the needs of today’s home cook. And since the arrival of her son in 2023, she’s more focused than ever on fast, easy weeknight recipes. She loves the outdoors (and of course, *cooking* outside), and her obsession with food continues to this day. Her popular recipes include The Only Dumpling Recipe You Ever Need, Perfect Dumpling Sauce, Hot & Sour Soup, and Chinese BBQ Pork Buns (Char Siu Bao).

After 10 years of recipe development and blogging, Sarah and The Leung family became New York Times Bestselling authors with their cookbook, The Woks of Life: Recipes to Know and Love from a Chinese American Family, as well as James Beard Award nominees and IACP Award finalists. Her background in media and digital marketing has helped transform The Woks of Life from a family passion project into a culinary platform that Bon Appétit has called “the Bible of Chinese Home Cooking,” reaching millions of home cooks worldwide.
